According to article “Whitman: “We Did Everything That We Could”, on NBC news, Candidate Meg Whitman allegedly hired an illegal immigrant to work for her as a housekeeper. According to attorney Gloria Allred Whitman knew that her house keeper Nicky Diaz Santillan was undocumented and Whitman kept her employed until she decided to run for governor. On the other hand Whitman claims that these are false allegations. Whitman claims she let Santillan go because she was unaware that Santillan was illegal, and Whitman wanted to follow the law. Allred got a hold of a letter sent to Whitman from the Social Security Administration stating that the social security number provided for Santillan didn’t match the name on file. Whitman says she has never seen this letter. Whitman claims that these allegations were set up against her to distract voters from what really matters.

This story is interesting because it just goes to show that there needs to be a watchdog for politicians. Its interesting because there are two stories there is the maids and the attorney’s story; which that Whitman knew that the maid she hired was an undocumented worker. The other story is that Whitman never knew that Santillan was illegal and when she discovered she was she fired her. This is interesting because there is two stories but the news doesn’t say which one is true, there is still more to investigate about this story.
